My dear friend:
It's been three years, and still not a single day goes by when I don't
think of you. Of anything about you: your smile, your imitation of the British
accent, your red nose, the spots all over your skin. Sometimes I just think
about your face, or rather it suddenly pops in my mind, because I can't
seem to forget at all, and I can't seem to stop missing you. It doesn't
hurt anymore, I think. But the longing is still the same as usual, the longing
to see your face, to hear from you, to have someone confirm that you are, indeed,
travelling, and that you are coming back to us one of these days. I'd
hug you so hard, and then we'd gossip as usual about boys, and I'd
have three years of gossip to fill you in and find a way to paint your nails
and make them look pretty despite the constant breaking, and I'd still
wish I could be like you, trying to gain weight instead of losing it, and just
being around you, and being better, closer friends.
I do still wish, however, that you refrain from looking at me, 'cause
I am sure I'm a pretty boring person and there are things about me I wouldn't
want anyone to watch, but we're all like that, right? And perhaps you
are looking, and you're with me while I type this, and I just want you
to know that I love you as much as ever, and that I hope that we meet again
sometime.
I'll take care of myself, too, and hope that if I ever get cancer (and
I probably am), I'll be as strong as you were.
I love you.

I'm seven or eight. It's late at night and I'm getting ready for sleep at my grandmother's house at the beach. When the lights are off and the window blinds are closed you can't see anything. My sister and I are talking and then my step dad appears at the door, and brings a piece of newspaper to me. In the image there's a face that looks like a skull and it's screaming. The legend says something about car accidents. I'm so overly terrified that I start crying and I keep crying for maybe 30 minutes, till my mother finally comes fetch me and lets me sleep with her.
It's nearly 1 am and I am battling my chronic insomnia so I can finally get to bed and have a decent face when I wake up for school. I lie in bed with eyes closed for a long while. As I'm finally drifting to sleep, the door bell rings and I'm the only one that will get up to open the damn door. Step dad is waiting there and he won't even say good evening when he gets in, and when I tell him that it's time that he gets a set of keys already he just says that he never will.
It's 4 pm and I am terribly sleepy. There's no way I can keep reading whatever I'm reading without taking a nap, specially when I've always had trouble with staying awake in the afternoon, so I lie in bed and sleep. The nap ends up being 3 and a half hours long and when I wake up my head feels heavy and dizzy. Seven hours later, my eyes are prickly, but every time I turn of the lights and try to get to sleep I feel more awake than ever, and have to keep doing things.
I'm lying in bed and I feel reasonably tired, so I might fall asleep soon. But as I'm lying there I start thinking, and it's not long before some really interesting idea pops into my mind and I'm sure if I don't write it down, it'll be forgotten in the morning. So I turn on the light and start writing... and I don't stop...
This is why I don't go to bed early.

Abby's Amusements domingo, abril 22, 2007
So I have to share this ...
Abby is talking on the phone to her daddy at the moment ...
and she's showing him all the things we bought today ...
She took the phone to the closet and pulled out the cat's new leash and held it up to the phone for him to see ...
She then opened the refrigerator and showed him the string cheese and apple juice we bought ...
Then she held the phone up to the cat and told Speckles (the cat) to tell her daddy about the new food dish we bought today ...
It's the bloody funniest thing I've seen her do lately :)
She's now holding the phone up to the TV so he can hear "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid" ...
Sometimes I wish our house was wired with 24-hour video ... this is priceless ...
You gotta love 3-year-olds 8^)
Must go rescue husband from phone insanity now ...
-Laura

No: él no actúa
Nosotros no tenemos nada.
Pero he aquí mi marca: nadie me olvidará.
¿No
Fourth year of English and this is how the story ends. He'd at least heard
a few shrieks: he pulls the trigger once, twice, and the first step is done.
There's nothing else to do. Keep calm, maybe, but that's rest assured. No: he's
not acting in fury. All that rage he had inside since long ago is frozen as
in painful, translucent stakes. And they've stabbed him like knifes: have they
ever felt pain? Have they ever felt anything else but pleasure, that boastful
stupidity of the fucking rich? We don't have anything. We've never had. I came
here to be someone and all I am is a fourth year student. Nothing else. But
here's my stamp: no one is ever going to forget me. Because they never thought
about everything they do: I'll make them realize all the misery they inject
into our lifes, just because they can. Just because they can.
But the time came. Once it came, I just had to do it. You gave me the weapons
yourself. All the rage I needed, you gave it to me. You sold me the bullets
with a big smile. You're proud of that, aren't you? Don't you feel proud of
your fucking money bags and of the shiny gun you hide under your pillow to kill
anyone that comes close? You feel so safe, but you don't know anything. You,
yourselves nourish everyone that'll ever take revenge. Don't come crying when
everything's done. And then he takes all the time he needs to keep his face
straight for another couple hours, walking peacefully to the post office and
back. To lock people will give him a savage satisfaction. To discharge all his
bullets on them, and a last one on himself, will be the last act of his life.

Just a memory, I guess miércoles, enero 17, 2007
You've already read it: I think I'll dedicate this to you.
I remember back in the day when I hadn't seen your face just yet and you used to play with those kids in every corner, and you'd always hide from them in the same places, and they could always find you – like me, they were drawn to you by that silence and the mystery of what was beyond what they called the fluffy mask, and I bet they were the only people ever that got a laugh back whenever they asked about what happened to you, even if you never answered them. Mask or not, the kids liked to be around you and you liked the kids to be around you as well, since I suppose that made you feel a bit less guilty and a bit more accompanied. I met you on a rainy day at the bus stop, because I'd looked at you and felt uneasy but then I laughed because I remembered I probably looked the same on that day, trying to protect myself from the cold and the wind (you know I've always been very weak and my nose is constantly red), and then you looked at me with what I guess was a quizzical brow and asked something rude but I just laughed again, and then I said good afternoon and stood there for hours just talking to you, looking into your eyes, dark yet shiny, unlike your very worn clothes. Standing there next to you made me realize we could be perfectly equal, and hearing your laughter from time to time (after the long, awkward silences) and letting go of my fears whilst encouraging my hopes made me blush, although you couldn't see it.
I never so much as touched your skin for years, except for that day when you had something in your eye and I tried to remove it and you backed away, as though I'd burned your eyelid, and stared at me with scared eyes for the whole evening. Then I became silent and then I just accepted trying to catch your breath through the frozen cloth would have to be enough for me, but I embraced that with open arms, since I couldn't now leave you. Not after hearing those little things you'd sometimes say, like the day when you told me your name and then I could never stop repeating it into my head, everyday, every time I breathed, because I was forbidden to say it aloud. Sometimes I felt like screaming it, specially after beating you at football when you'd fold your arms and look at me with the quizzical brow again, and I suppose you pouted, and then I'd try to kiss you and you'd back away once more. It was not until I talked you into dancing with me by the moonlight and I whispered things into your ear that would make my mother blush, and then you laughed and laughed and then took a glove out and squeezed my hand into yours, and you were cold and your fingertips felt rough, like they belonged to a working-class man and not who I believed you were, but I'd never asked where you'd come from. Afterwards you took me inside and we sat in the middle of that room of yours, and as I was trying to look around you shut the blinds and came back to me and started taking everything out in the shadows, and then you covered my eyes with something soft, and took my hands, and placed them onto your face. I discovered some scars and mostly wrinkles, and I think I felt a bit of burned skin, too; your neck was soft, though, and I loved to discover that you could have, indeed, a beard, and that you hadn't shaved in two or three days. Then you made sure my blindfold was safe in its place and took my dress away, and then you held me and kissed me for the first time. You stretched me into your arms for hours and after a while you drifted peacefully into sleep, and I took the blindfold out and stared at you till I could see your face in the shadows, and then put it on again, and felt asleep as well, my fingers entwined with yours. Then I woke up a few hours later and you were up and fully dressed, and I think you gifted me with an invisible smile when you looked at me, and I put my dress on and went back to just standing next to you, like I'd always done. Sometimes I think about that day and wonder why I still let you blind me every time we meet, but there's a part of me that still loves the mystery and the way everything feels different when I shut my eyes close, even your scent and your laughter, and the coldness of your skin.

YO: No. Yo no estoy usando peluca.
HOMBRE CON PELUCA: No.
YO: Entonces no estamos, metafóricamente hablando, todos usando pelucas.

A little note sábado, diciembre 02, 2006
I'm thinking you said I plan everything, when I most certainly do not, really. But I'm thinking maybe it was someone else, because I don't think everything that happened was a happy coincidence, and I think me being embarrassed to tell you what I meant to tell you that day was the thing that sparked your curiosity, which I hoped to happen but didn't plan, and that was what ultimately led us to that night, and everything that happened then. Destiny, you say? I haven't regretted what I did, what I let you do - not for a moment. It certainly helped: it made me see many things I wasn't aware of. I grew up a little bit. Just a bit.
And I'm writing this now just because I'd thought of it two hours ago (maybe for the last time: I'd been thinking of this for a while, anyway), and now you're the one that's sparked my curiosity: I expect some things to happen, I expect to hear some things I'd been suspecting. Interesting, really. I don't know. I just... I just had to write something. Now I've done. Now I can shut up and forget about it.

Apparently, once again, some witty members of this guild are thinking I might have lost my marbles.
Hereby I declare that I have not.
All my marbles are stored into a very pretty box painted purple with a big rune on top, the rune of Love, mind, and I take them out to polish once a week at the very least. My marbles are taken care of - you never know when you might need them, so it's important to keep them pretty :P My point is, I have not lost a single marble, so please stop sending them back!!
You're all nuts.
And I love them.

Oh sweet werewolf, you're the sustancia I love the most.
Pft. Of course, my dear __________ (name of a pretty animal)". Y me puse feliz.

Lost in Translation domingo, agosto 13, 2006
He said he likes my accent. It bugs me that people will necessarily talk about my accent since I'm not a native speaker. And it bugs me that I can speak quite well when I'm on my own, but when I actually speak to people I forget things and then I start saying ridiculous stuff. I'd rather write. But, I'd like to meet those gringo friends of mine, and for that, I shall speak.
